Homeostasis

Our bodies are built to seek homeostasis. When one system is out of balance, the other systems kick in to compensate for the deficits of the struggling one. We can operate for long periods in this compensation mechanism until we can no longer. I witnessed time after time as an emergency nurse people in crisis after ignoring their body signals to rest, drink more water, get good exercise, or check in with their provider for guidance. Our bodies are our vehicles, and we must learn to listen to the subtle cues/warning signs indicating we are headed for trouble. As a holistic nurse, I see each individual as a whole being. Balance within each body, mind, and spirit is essential to maintaining homeostasis.
